 ILLEGAL PORN DISTRIBUTORS BUSTED-EAST LONDON

As part of the 16 days of activism of No Violence Against Women and Children, the Film and Publication Board (FPB), the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Mr Malusi Gigaba and the SAPS yesterday (03/12/09) raided illegal distributors of DVD’s in East London. This resulted with the confiscation of more than 70 000 illegal DVD’s and a closure of an illegal adult shop allegedly found in possession of child pornographic materials.

“Adult distributors are allowed to distribute X rated materials and products for people above the age of 18 years old, but not child pornography, and from what we found in the shop today there are suspicious products that contain images of young children and as the FPB we will confiscate and analize the materials in order to advise the police if the materials really contain child pornographic images” said the CEO of the FPB Ms Yoliswa Makhasi.

“It is important that we impose strict regulations to adult shops because in a way pornography erodes the moral fiber of our society” said the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Malusi Gigaba. This is going to be an ongoing national operation by the Film and Publication Board with a mission to combat illegal distribution of DVD’s and non compliance of distributors to the Films and Publications Act of 96, amended in 2009. The Act is set to regulate the distribution of Films, interactive games and certain publications with the main objective to the protection of children from explicit and harmful materials. For more information please contact Ms Sibo Myeni, Head of Communications on 011 483 0971, 082 307 4708 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
